Biography
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Gerhard Prager
Gerhard Prager is Professor of Bariatric Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna and one of the most experienced obesity surgeons in Europe. With over 9,900 procedures performed and more than 435 scientific publications, he is among the leading experts in his field worldwide.
As former World President of IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders), he has significantly shaped the global standards for bariatric surgery. He presided over the 2023 World Congress in Naples, which brought together over 4,000 participants from 72 countries.
Since 2004, he has headed the Obesity Outpatient Clinic at Vienna General Hospital while also running his private practice in Vienna's 7th district. His philosophy: Every patient deserves an individualized, evidence-based treatment at the highest international level – combined with time, respect, and empathy.
